Monday night, VICE on HBO is screening their upcoming segment, “Campus Cover-Up,” about sexual assault on college campuses at the George Washington University. After the screening, host Gianna Toboni will interview Senator Claire McCaskill and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand about the issue. In April of last year, Gillibrand released a letter by a bipartisan coalition of seven U.S. Senators which was sent to the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault.

“When our young people go on to higher education, it should be an opportunity to learn, grow, pursue their dreams and prepare for their future careers,” said Senator Gillibrand. “But the price of a college education should not include a 1 in 5 chance of being sexually assaulted. I urge the White House Task Force to seriously consider our proposals that would immediately address the scourge of sexual assault on our college campuses and help keep our students safe.”

Gillibrand recently received an award from “Voices for the Voiceless” at the Residence of Amb. and Mrs. Sasae. “Speak out. Be heard. Change the world,” she said upon receiving the honor. Others speakers included Bettinger-López, the new White House Advisor on Violence Against Women, founders of DCVLP Jenny Brody and Karen Barker Marcou: “Voices for the Voiceless”
