Summertime and the Livin's Easy

How lucky are we? Mother Nature smiled on Georgetown once again for the second concert in the Citizens Association of Georgetown's Concerts in the Parks series Sunday at Volta Park.

The weather was unseasonably gorgeous, the ice cream was cold and the hot dogs were..uh, hot, as kids frolicked in the wading pool/ducks game, decorated hats and danced with their Dads (conveniently stickered with "Dad" stickers) in celebration of Father's Day. There were sack races and water balloons. The adults, well, we just lolled about on the lawn listening to the mellow vibes of the Morrison Brothers Band.

I particularly loved the Bonnie Raitt-styled numbers including one of my all time favorites "Angel from Montgomery". The Ball or Nothing truck was in attendance once again, and those mini-dogs from Chi-Dog-O were surprisingly addictive (for those who didn't want Sprinkles cupcakes or Häagen-Dazs for dinner).

In no hurry to end the balmy summer afternoon, we lingered with friends chatting and laughing happily and long after the music ended my boys and I stumbled home, tattooed and sugar dazed into the gently cooling evening. Perfect.
