A special highlight of "Ports of Call," the theme of this year's Washington Winter Show at the Katzen Arts Center, is the 2015 loan exhibit, "Vessels of Victory" featuring the America's Cup and other trophies in the maritime tradition.

Included in this very special exhibit is a collection of silver trophies awarded both for victory in naval battles and in competitive sailing. A long-standing tradition of presentation pieces of silver, awarded to naval heroes in the early years of the United States and continuing today for maritime achievement, are represented. From the Quasi-War with France to the contemporary sailing races and regattas, over a dozen examples of sliver trophies will be on view, including The America’s Cup trophy, on loan from Oracle Team USA, winner of the 2013 race.

During Washington's annual premier three-day antiques show, forty-five premier dealers from the United States and Europe will offer a wide range of period furnishings and decorative arts, vintage jewelry, porcelains, ceramics, silver, and architectural garden accents.

St. John’s Community Services, The Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys and THEARC have been named beneficiaries of this year’s show. Over a quarter of a million dollars in proceeds has been donated to local charities that serve the needs of children and families in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area since January 2011.

On Friday, Amy Herman, a former attorney and museum professional, who brings a unique perspective to the arts, will be the featured speaker at "The Art of Perception" lecture and luncheon. Amy began her career in the museum field at The Frick Collection on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Not long after working as The Frick's Head of Education, Amy developed an art analysis program that has been adopted by more than just curators, called The Art of Perception. Amy's "students" include the CIA, FBI, Secret Service, Department of Justice, New York City Police Department, as well as major museums, hospitals, medical schools, and universities across the country.
