Food & Clothing Drive for Georgetown Ministry Center
Help support families in need.
Georgetown Ministry Center (GMC) provides services for people experiencing homelessness, and they have urgent supply needs at the moment. According to GMC, the most pressing concern is the loss of SNAP benefits. Nearly 1 in 5 DC residents relies on SNAP for consistent access to food – affecting not only the guests who visit the GMC Drop-In Center every day, but also the majority of neighbors GMC has helped transition into housing who still rely on SNAP as their primary source of food. GMC provides daily lunches, pastries, snacks, and outreach meals, but without SNAP, their team can’t meet every individual’s nutritional needs. Their meals are meant to supplement, not replace, the critical food access SNAP provides.
If you’re able to assist, consider ordering from GMC’s food wish list to supplement the meal program. You can also mail or deliver gift cards from grocery stores and convenience stores, or VISA gift cards so guests can choose their own meals. Email teddy@gmcgt.org to learn more.
Additionally, GMC is preparing for its winter clothing distribution and is collecting thermals, sweatshirts, hats and gloves (check out their winter essentials wish list). They especially need new winter coats (sizes M – XXXL) and handwarmers.
