Elin Anna Labba Book Talk

At Embassy of Sweden on September 14th

The Embassy of Sweden welcomes acclaimed Swedish Sámi author Elin Anna Labba on Monday, September 14, 2026 at 6:00 pm for a conversation moderated by Dr. Elizabeth Rule (Chickasaw Nation), distinguished Indigenous scholar.  Register here.

The discussion will center on Labba's internationally acclaimed book, The Home of the Drowned (Far inte till havet), which explores the forced displacement of Sámi communities in northern Scandinavia following twentieth-century hydroelectric development. Through archival research, oral histories, and literary storytelling, the work examines themes of memory, identity, resilience, and Indigenous relationships to land. Together, Labba and Dr. Rule will explore Indigenous storytelling, cultural heritage, and the role of literature in preserving histories, strengthening cultural continuity, and advancing dialogue across communities and borders.
