Dreaming the Future of Free Food

A sewing bee and a singing bee with Kristina Wong and Brian Feldman.

As part of the development process for her newest work "Kristina Wong,  #FoodBankInfluencer"-- Pulitzer Prize Finalist Kristina Wong will be at The Kennedy Center’s REACH’s Studio J dreaming up the cool new future of emergency food distribution with visitors from Thursday, August 3, 2023 through Saturday August 5, 2023.

They will test drive wild possibilities for what a food bank could be with your help!

Cut and sew some pieces that will make their way into our massive fabric food bank installation while Kristina enchants you with stories of her recent travels to food deserts across the United States.

Or take a break from the manual labor and enjoy "FOODAOKE" hosted by Brian Feldman (Voted D.C.’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Best Performance Artist) with songs only about food, supermarkets, and hunger! A karaoke machine will be set up and participants are welcome to sing solo, with Brian, or as a group.

Sign up, sing a song, and receive a reusable grocery bag filled with healthy groceries – and a can opener! In-between songs, Brian will share fun facts about the songs, food banks, and food insecurity, while inviting participants to share their best ideas for how to make food more accessible for everyone.

No singing or sewing experience necessary.  All ages welcome.

No registration needed. Come and watch, or come and participate.  Stay for a few minutes or a few hours.
