Dean Fisher and Antonia Walker Show at Susan Calloway

Susan Calloway Fine Arts Gallery presents Between Hill and Dale: Dean Fisher and Antonia Walker March 30 through April 27, 2019.

Opening reception is March 30th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

While both Fisher and Walker are American artists, each has spent a considerable amount of time teaching and studying abroad, particularly in the French countryside. As a result, many of the landscapes in this exhibition are evocative views of the countryside of Provence and the Dordogne regions. Antonia Walker, who resides in historic Waterford, Virginia, is equally inspired by the rolling landscapes of the Blue Ridge, while Dean Fisher gives us views of rural Connecticut, as well as still lifes composed of everyday objects, reminiscent of the great Italian artist, Giorgio Morandi.

Dean Fisher studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and, since, has been exhibiting nationally and internationally in prominent galleries for more than twenty five years.

After living in Spain, France and England for eight years and making master copies as a form of study at The Prado museum, The Louvre and the National Gallery of Art, Dean returned to the US and has been living in Connecticut in a converted dairy barn with his wife, the artist Josephine Robinson.

Antonia Walker finds inspiration in the patterns of light and color in the landscape of the Virginia Blue Ridge as well as the architecture and countrysides of Italy and France. She received a BFA from the University of Georgia, continued with graduate studies at George Washington University and later, while living in South America, studied drawing with Spanish artist Benjamin Saul. Walker has been invited to two different residencies at the American Academy in Rome, where she was provided with a studio. Her paintings and drawings have been published in many books and her paintings have been represented in the Art in Embassies program at the State Department, as well as in many corporate and private collections throughout the country. She travels to France and Italy frequently, teaching and painting the landscape. She currently resides in Virginia.
