Carl Bretzke's Landscapes at Susan Calloway Feb. 6 to Mar. 7

From February 6 to March 7, 2015, visit Susan Calloway Fine Arts Gallery for a mini vacation with painter Carl Bretzke.. Opening reception is February 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Anytime/Anywhere - A Modern Landscape features the artworks of award-winning oil painter Carl Bretzke. The exhibition focuses on Bretzke's modernist sensibility in the plein air world - showcasing Bretzke's use of traditional methods of direct painting with an emphasis on atypical subject matter. Bretzke's compelling nocturne, street and scenic landscapes originate from his surrounding mid-western landscape where his paintings are often executed on location. The scenes themselves, although somewhat serene, are energized by Bretzke's use of color and strong focal points. Reflective surfaces and dark lighting resonate a sense of mystery, while the inclusion of cars, familiar edifices and strong use of light and shadow create a sense of universality.
