Bluelene

An age-old molecule that preserves skin cells.

Full disclosure. My friend, Jennifer Romm with whom I regularly share beauty and anti aging discoveries recently introduced me to Bluelene. Before I reached out to the company to learn more, it had checked all my boxes: scientifically tested, proven effective, gentle, patented and the best news, locally developed!

Jasmin El Kordi (Co-Founder and CEO of MBlue Labs, the biotechnology startup that created Bluelene) gifted me her daily routine in exchange for my honest review. This is it.

What’s different (and exciting) about Bluelene? They’re a woman/minority owned small business and were awarded the CO-100 US Chamber Top 100 Small Businesses in America award in 2025 (out of 14K applicants).

Bluelene is an anti-aging skincare brand created by Mblue Labs, a spin-off company from the University of Maryland. Dr. Kan Cao, a UMD biology professor and leading human aging scientist, discovered that an age-old medicine called methylene blue (originally used to treat malaria and other diseases) repairs skin cells at the molecular level, boosting hydration, collagen and elastin production, expanding thickness of the dermis, and improving skin texture. When compared to products that have mitochondrial-targeting antioxidants, methylene blue outperformed MitoQ, NAC and MTemp in scientific studies as a more effective way to enhance mitochondrial health and delay senescence of the cells. It also outperformed retinol and is an excellent retinol alternative offering anti-aging benefits without irritation.

Many of the creams and serums I’ve used in the past, often recommended by trusted dermatologists, I’ve liked and found effective at moisturizing and protecting my skin. But after a while, the effects would lessen, and I would be eager to try the next best thing. Ideally, topical products should reduce my need for Botox and fillers. I’m a month into using Bluelene exclusively and I’ve found their claims about improving elastin and collagen production definitely true for me.

These are the products I’m using and why I’m so pleased:

Serum+ As recommended, I apply in the morning after cleansing and wait five minutes before applying Eye Plus+ and Night Plus+. My skin immediately feels plumped and hydrated.

Night Plus+ This serum, in addition to methylene blue, has Vitamin C and Jojoba Oil which promote UV exposure recovery, increase collagen and elastin production. It’s a night cream that used in the morning is great for mature skin.

Eye Plus+ This cream has methylene blue, Ergothioneine, and Niacinamide. Those ingredients, while I can’t exactly feel them, immediately soothe and plump the delicate area around my eyes.

Fit+Firm Serum Applied at night, this is my favorite product, which is designed to counteract visible skin deflation caused by rapid medical weight loss, aging, and metabolic stress, especially from treatments or restrictive dieting. Re-densifying and restoring volume in hollow areas is exactly what I most need. The best result from using this regimen is that my entire face feels deeply hydrated at all times. My cheeks are fuller and the texture firmer.
