Sen. John McCain criticizes "the salons of Georgetown"
Sen. John McCain lit into to Georgetown during a fiery Senate speech criticizing attempts to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." The veteran lawmaker said small-town America would pay the price while "the salons of Georgetown and other liberal bastions here around the country" were high-fiving in celebration of the law while "never having served in the military or maybe not even having known someone in the military."

During his unsuccessful 2008 run for president, McCain twice made withering references to the sort of people at "Georgetown cocktail parties" in defense of his pick for vice president, Sarah Palin. But Georgetowner Sally Quinn (winner of The Georgetown Dish's award for Literature & Style) said at the time that McCain himself hasn't been a stranger on the Georgetown party circuit.

"I've sat next to him many times at dinner parties in Georgetown," Quinn told the Washington Post. "He's an absolutely delightful dinner partner."

The full text of McCain's Georgetown reference follows the video...

"I'm aware that this vote will probably pass today in a lame duck session. There will be high fives all over the liberal bastions of America. And we'll see on the talk shows tomorrow a bunch of people talking about how great it is, most of them never having served in the military or  maybe not even having known someone in the military...and you know, we'll repeal it. And all over America they'll be gold stars put up in windows in the rural towns and communities all over America, that  don't partake in the elite schools that bar military recruiters from campus, that don't partake in the salons of Georgetown and other liberal bastions here around the country. But they'll be additional sacrifice. I hear that from master seargents, I hear that from junior officers, I hear that from leaders." -- Sen. John McCain

Poor John McCain is really losing it.

The man with seven homes, he can't even remember where they are, just seems to have gone over the deep end. It is kind of sad to see someone at the end of his career-actually it should have ended already but politicians never know when to get out-lose so much credibility.

His actions and demeanor in the last two years have shown even some of his most ardent supporters why electing him President would have been such a disaster for the Country.

Again it is mostly just sad to watch him these days.

McCain is mentally ill. If he served in the military he already served with gay men. Besides he so honored his commitment this son of a son of an admiral managed to finish nearly last in his class at the Naval Academy and ditched two jets before he was shot down in Vietnam. I respect him for all he went through and survived while in the hands of the North Vietnamese but do you think he could for one minute imagine what it's like to walk around afraid that you'll be outed. Hey John, men don't join the military to hook-up. They join the military to serve their country just like you. And yes, though not gay I served in the military (Marines) and we had three men in my platoon who were gay. Everybody knew and nobody cared. We'd rather have a man who can shoot straight than is straight.

We need term limits.

We could probably find something in the Congressional Record where some aging idiotic Senator says the same thing about letting blacks in the military 50-some years ago.

McCain, are you kidding me? All salons are elated because SO many of those employees are in joining up. You twit, people go into the military to honor America and fight for our rights and freedom. Ask your fellow politicians, wait..some are busy signing under the stalls.

How is that a slam on Georgetown? Look up the definition of the word liberal, I hardly call it a "slam." WALNUTS McCain and the other olds are a dying breed, thankfully.

By reveiwing your responses one can tell that Georgetown is a very special place...a place where Neiman Marcus liberals live. God, you people really fit your stuck-up elite stereotype.

Sincerely,

Someone who works for a living...i.e. not a lawyer or a lobbyist or a DC hanger-on.

Got out of Georgetown

Since when is Georgetown LIBERAL? Bastion of the conservative establishment and status quo, where genocide is applauded or at least theorized to death, where gay hate crimes are on the rise... I doubt McCain is talking about the nook and cranny liberals who actually survive in Georgetown.
