Internationally-known Paraguayan concert guitarist Berta Rojas played to a packed hall in the acoustically perfect sanctuary of Dumbarton United Methodist Church Saturday. Ambassador Rigoberto Gauto sat up front, clearly a big fan.
"Berta is a world-class artist," said a beaming audience member. "She's as good as it gets."
The Dumbarton Concert is just one stop in Beta’s musical career. She’s played the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, the South Bank Centre in London and noted venues across the Americas and Asia. She is also the organizer of the annual Ibero-American Guitar Festival in Washington and a music professor at George Washington University.
Now in their 32nd year, the October to April Dumbarton Concerts series is directed by Connie Zimmer.
Next Saturday, March 13, the American Chamber Players will play a program entitled Les Enfants Terribles, Paris in the 20s and then the Miro Quartet on April 10.
