Swiss Embassy shows Max Frisch film at L'Etelier Theater October 5

In honor of the 100th birthday of Swiss author, Max Frisch, the Swiss Embassy will be presenting the feature film, "Homo Faber" ("The Voyager") on October 5, 2011. The film will be shown in Georgetown at L'Etelier Theater beginning at 7:00 pm.

Homo Faber, meaning "the man who creates his own destiny," is based on the classic bestselling book by the same title . Oscar nominee Sam Shepard takes on the role of a lifetime in award-winning director Volker Schlondorff's powerful film that follows a monumental love affair that spanned two generations and six continents. Following a trail of odd coincidences that leads him from being a plane crash survivor in Mexico to a transatlantic voyager, engineer Walter Faber (Shepard) meets the beautiful young German girl Sabeth (Julie Delpy). Driving across Europe together on their way to her mother’s home in Greece, Faber's life is rejuvenated by Sabeth's love until phantoms from his past confront him with a shocking truth.

A short introduction will be made with a clip from the documentary "Max Frisch, Citoyen" about the life of the author. The film will be followed by a wine and cheese reception provided by the Swiss Embassy.
