The Jackson Art Center is a community of more than 40 artists working in studio space in the historic Jackson School, a former DC public elementary school operating in Georgetown from 1890 to 1971. The Romanesque revival style building remained empty for several years until a group of local artists and the Corcoran School of Art and Design joined in the 1980s to lease the building from the DC Public Schools and turn it into an art center for classes and private studio space. The turreted red brick building with its high, wide windows and soaring ceilings made it ideal for studio and art instruction space. In 1990, the Corcoran moved out and the artists took over the lease, allowing many more local artists to rent affordable studio space in the city. In 2000, the artists incorporated, becoming the non-profit Jackson Art Center.

Jackson Art Center is located at 3050 R Street.
