It all began in Eli Rakis’ kitchen. As friends, she and Sally Eastman would get their families together. They would chat as they prepared snacks or dinner for their children and husbands. They would share stories, recipes, and ideas, and worried about the ingredients in some store-bought foods. They were always on the lookout for new ideas and products to make easy, healthy and delicious meals. The Sauce Queens were born when Rakis realized her friends, including Eastman, loved the sauces she developed for her family and together, they could make them available to others. They approached Whole Foods Market in Old Town Alexandria late in 2012. Just over 13 months later, they are in 11 stores in the Metro DC and Baltimore areas. Sauce Queen sauces are an effortless way to transform a regular meal into something extraordinary. They are perfect as dips for chips and veggies, as spreads on sandwiches and burgers, as a condiment for steak, chicken and seafood, and as an ingredient to enhance the flavor side dishes. They are made in small batches with fresh, wholesome ingredients. The Sauce Queens are often at the Georgetown Whole Foods providing samples of their sauces. Winesdays are their favorite when customers receive five samples of wines along with five food pairings throughout the store for just $5. Meet them this Wednesday, January 29 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm in Whole Foods Georgetown at 2323 Wisconsin Avenue. Also this weekend, come into the store for Super Bowl pairings with the Sauce Queen Sauces!
