Georgetown Farmers Market Launches June 5

Beginning June 5, Licking Creek Bend Farm will host a Georgetown Farmers Market every Sunday from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at the corner of Wisconsin and P Street.

For 44 continuous years, Michael Tabor and the Licking Creek Bend Farm have been bringing sustainably grown and affordable produce to the Washington, DC, area. While Licking Creek Bend Farm already operates Farmers Markets in Adams Morgan and Brookland, this summer will be adding another market and bringing fresh, locally grown produce to Georgetown.

Owner and social activist, Michael Tabor, started the farm in 1972 as a diaspora kibbutz. After the city folk retreated back to the city, Michael started farming in earnest and going to farm markets in 1974. Licking Creek Bend Farm consists of 60 acres, of which 5 - 10 are farmed each year. He practices a rotation of fields each year.

The farm is a Certified Naturally Grown farm with six full-time employees. Their philosophy is that a sustainable food system starts with local farmers, who know their customers.
