Evans writes letter in support of suspended assistant police chief

D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans sent a letter to Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier in support of Assistant Chief Diane Groomes, who is currently on administrative leave after allegedly "compromising" a routine police training exam, according to the department.
“Chief Groomes is an incredible asset to MPD, Ward 2, and the entire District,” said Evans, who issued a press release about his letter.  “While she may have experienced a lapse in judgment, we cannot allow this incident to overshadow her contributions to our neighborhoods, which simply cannot be overstated.”
Evans cited the overwhelming show of support he has witnessed from residents and civic leaders on behalf of Groomes.
“My email and voicemail are full of messages of support from around the Ward,” Evans said.  “There is no doubt that her impact in Ward 2 has been significant and that residents are appreciative of her hard work and dedication.”
