'CODEGIRL' Screening March 10

Palantir is hosting a screening of the documentary CODEGIRL, followed by a discussion with the director, Lesley Chilcott, on Thursday, March 10 at 5:30 pm. The event is part of a speaker series called It Starts with Girls, which features influential women who are improving girls’ access to science and technology.

Ria Galanos, AP Computer Science teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, joins award-winning filmmaker and producer Chilcott, for a discussion that will focus on the unique challenges girls interested in STEM face in high school. The film tells story of the 2015 Technovation Challenge to girls all over the world.

The Technovation Challenge is a six-year-old competition for high school girls. Teams from around the world have three months to design an app that addresses a problem in their communities, write a business plan, and make a pitch video.

Last year, filmmaker Lesley Chilcott, who produced Waiting for Superman and an Inconvenient Truth, set out to make a documentary about the girls participating in the challenge.
