Bikeshare network planned for Georgetown

Capital Bikeshare, a new regional bike sharing program, is coming to Georgetown. Beginning in September, 114 bike stations offering 1,100 bikes for rent will be rolling out as part of an agreement with the D.C. Department of Transportation and Arlington County. The network allows members to access the fleet of bikes 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The first 30 minutes of each trip are free. Then, users pay by the half-hour.

Four bike stations in Georgetown and Glover Park are planned at 1100 30th St. NW, Wisconsin Ave. near the C&O Canal, 3520 Prospect St. NW, Wisconsin and 37th St. NW, and 2422 37th St. NW.  Plans are already underway to expand the network further in Virginia and Maryland.

The new system will be similar to the BIXI network in Montreal, the model for new systems planned in Minneapolis, London, and Melbourne, Australia. Alta Bicycle Share will operate the system.

Capital Bikeshare is promoting an introductory membership offer of $50. The first 2,000 members will receive a free Capital Bikeshare t-shirt and Founding Members key.

They should add an East Village location near Rose Park or the Four Seasons -- the lower 30th street location is not as convenient. How can we ask for such additions?
