“I love the integrity of the material and the potential future of it. It can go any and everywhere. I think it’s coincidentally the right time for this kind of subject matter to be displayed,” Aldis Hodge, star of “Underground,” told Hollywood on the Potomac. “It’s such a pivotal moment for America’s culture as it stands today because something like this resonates, the subject matter resonates so loudly. I think it’s very, very relevant with the issues we deal with – the social injustice, the miscegenation our personal outlook on our own culture and cultural history. I think something like this can bring a different sort of appreciation for who we are, not only as different individual people, but as Americans because at the end of the day, that’s just what it’s about. We’re all Americans. We’ve got to make it work.”

WGN’S new escape thriller “Underground” was recently celebrated at a White House screening of the series in honor of Black History Month. From executive producers John Legend and Academy Award-winner Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind,” “I Am Legend”), Underground is set in 1857 and takes viewers on a pulse-pounding journey with revolutionaries of the Underground Railroad and tells the unflinching story of a group of courageous men and women who band together for the fight of their lives – for their families, their future and their freedom.
