Anna Wintour in Chanel
In this morning's Washington Post, Anna Wintour looks nice in her daytime Chanel dress, suitable for a ladies luncheon or a large afternoon reception. However, it was highly inappropriate for a State Dinner at the White House, as she should know as the Editor of Vogue.
Yes, we may not always dress to please Robin Givhan, and underdressed is better than overdressed, but courtesy should have clothed her in an evening gown for this special occasion.

I so totally agree...could not believe the overt carelessness of Ms. Wintour...good thing she had her invitation with her...unlike the Salahi's, she would have been culled out straight away!!
I couldn't agree more. A lack of respect? A breech of protocol? I don't know, but a really poor choice.
Actually, I think when you are Anna Wintour, you get to wear whatever you want and the rest of us follow behind.
You are so right, Frida!
Oh, how right you are, Mrs. Burling! I felt just a little schadenfreude as I read your pithy comments. As a Brit, Ms. Wintour should have known better. As the editor of Vogue, she should have known MUCH better. The rules of etiquette are clear for Royal, Diplomatic and Formal Occasions: At functions such as a state banquet, dress is very formal. Although female dress is not as formally codified as that of men, women are expected to wear full-length dresses such as ball gowns and evening gowns. Tut, tut Ms. Wintour, your slip is showing.
