Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans was on hand to present The Georgetown Dish 2011 Ports and Recreation Award to Robert vom Eigen, president of Friends of Georgetown Waterfront Park.

Interest in converting the industrial Georgetown waterfront into a park began in the 1960s and grew in the late 1990s under the leadership of Illinois Senator Charles Percy. This lead to the formation of the Friends of the Georgetown Waterfront Park in 2005.
