Palisades Fourth of July Parade

The 52nd annual Palisades Citizens' Association's Fourth of July parade will take place—rain or shine—on Wednesday, July 4. The old-fashioned neighborhood parade attracts participants and spectators from throughout the Washington area. Mayor Bowser, Eleanor Holmes Norton and other District officials will march down MacArthur Boulevard along with neighbors, local businesses, schools and families.

The all-volunteer parade begins at 11:00 am at the corner of Whitehaven Parkway and MacArthur Boulevard, NW. The parade will proceed along MacArthur to the Palisades Recreation Center at Sherier and Dana Places, NW.

From neighborhood children on decorated bicycles to community groups like the Millwood Mob, the Palisades’ salute to our independence is grassroots. It will feature marching bands, as well as the Washington Scottish Bagpipe Band, Alma Boliviana, the Georgetown-Palisades Lions Club, the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of D.C., the D.C. Different Drummers Marching Band, the D.C. Fire Department Engine Company 29, the United Horseman's Association, a Chinese dragon, the DC Police Pipes and Drums, clowns and vintage cars. Anyone is free to march in the parade; no registration is necessary.

The festivities conclude at the Palisades Recreation Center with a free picnic of hot dogs, drinks and watermelon - and live music under the big top. Prizes, provided by local businesses, will be awarded. Kids can enjoy face painting, two moon bounces and other activities. At the picnic, Mayor Bowser will cut the ribbon on an all-new, refurbished Palisades Rec Center Field House.

“DC is a city of neighborhoods, and while there is a parade running down Constitution Avenue, this really is our city’s July 4th parade,” said Palisades Citizens Association President Avi Green. “It is entirely homespun, all-volunteer, and funded through t-shirt sales and local business contributions. The Palisades is proud to host an event that highlights the qualities that make our neighborhood and our City a great place to raise a family!”
