Hillary Is In The House

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton dropped by Georgetown’s il Canale restaurant on 31st Street NW Tuesday night and dined on Capricciosa pizza at a corner table on the main floor.

She was with two friends who were not identified.

“I heard good things” about this restaurant, she told the staff, when she arrived about 7:15 pm and then stayed for about 90 minutes.

Initially, she had asked for a quiet space but was told that il Canale -- being very Italian – is a very active place with lots of emotion on display. She laughed and good naturedly decided to take a table near a window anyway.

During a conversation with Italian-born waitress, Rosalie Acampora and GM Vittorio Rosso, she was told that the restaurant serves true thin-crust pizza sanctioned by the Associaione Verace Pizza Napoletana, the organization that certifies the authenticity of Italian thin-crust pizza baked in a brick oven. In good humor, she inquired if it was the “real thing” and was told, yes, indeed.

Her choice of pizza, Capricciosa, is made with tomato sauce, imported bufala mozzarella, artichoke hearts, mushrooms,, ham and fresh basil.

Mrs. Clinton posed for pictures with staff and others.
