Hardy Middle School student Miranda Woods
Miranda Woods, a student at Hardy Middle School in Georgetown, got the attention of presumptive mayor Vincent C. Gray in Ward 5 Tuesday as he kicked off his city-wide listening tour.
Woods got herself to CommunityAcademy Public Charter School, at North Capitol and New York Avenue, NW, to ask Gray about the removal of Patrick Pope as Hardy principal, which is still causing turmoil at the high-ranking school.
“We’ve had four principals and they can’t to the job correctly,” she said to a round of applause. Schedules are “still messed up,” she added.
“To this day I don’t know why Mr. Pope was removed,” Gray said. “Are you going to bring back Mr. Pope?” Woods asked pointedly. Gray said he would consult with the “education leadership” but stressed that he would not “manage” the school system and not “step in and bring back a principal.”
The friendly crowd generally posed less pointed questions and mobbed the future mayor when he finished.
