The Friends of Rose Park (FRP) hosted their annual Fall Benefit at the Dodge Mansion in Georgetown's East Village Thursday night. Dodge, home of gracious FRP supporter Bill Dean, provided the perfect setting for guests to enjoy sunset cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the garden followed by recognition of supporters and presentation of awards.

While the community is very excited about the the city's construction project currently underway to improve Rose Park, there are no allowances for maintenance and upkeep. The primary goal for the FRP event was to fund a larger maintenance budget in anticipation of these future costs.

Noted photographer Steve Gottlieb was on hand to sign copies of his latest book "Washington, Portrait of a City", with all proceeds to going to FRP. FRP President David Dunning presented host Bill Dean with a beautifully embossed leather bound photo book commemorating the event as well as a signed print of the last Rose Park Gala at Dodge by photographer and board member Oliver Devine. "This is unbelievable", said Dean upon receiving his gifts, "such a worthy cause".

The evening's true star was the recipient of this year's Service Award, educator Janel Jackson. Jackson, who runs the district's little explorer's program for young elementary students taught out of the small recreation hut in the park, has made a lasting impression on countless children and impressed parents with her hard work, positive attitude, and amazing results given the limited resources and space she has at her disposal.

Thank to all the guests who came out to celebrate Rose Park!
