Photo by RJSmithWard 2 Councilmember Jack Evans’ birthday party (celebrated on Wednesday although he was born on the 31st, Halloween!) is one of the political and social events of the year in the ward – and this year was no different. Filling the atrium of the landmark Homer Building on 13th Street downtown were constituents, Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners, former and current council staff members, old folks, young folks and just plain folks. They mingled and danced and, of course, gossiped – from who’s running for ANC to who will be in Mayor Gray’s new cabinet.
Evans, who came into office in 1991 at the start of the Sharon Pratt Kelly Administration, is the longest serving councilmember. With his new wife, Michele Seiver and their combined families at his side, Evans thanked the crowd for helping him with “the 20 happiest year of his life,” and then went back to dancing.
