Citizens Association of Georgetown Recognizes Community Leaders

The Citizens Association of Georgetown (CAG) held its annual meeting Tuesday at newly restored Dumbarton House. The evening began with a special reception for new CAG members.

Councilmember Jack Evans and Deputy Mayor for Greater Economic Opportunity Courtney Snowden spoke on DC initiatives and the Metro.

Fourteen people were inducted into the CAG Legacy Society, a new effort to ensure the future of CAG. This Planned Giving initiative ensures a thriving future for the oldest, and most active, citizens association in the District. With an ever-expanding list of programs, a wonderful group of volunteers, and terrific staff, costs continue to escalate.

The meeting included the presentation of CAG’s awards to outstanding community leaders for 2017 and the election of the 2017-2018 CAG Board of Directors.

The Belin Award for Distinguished Service to the Georgetown Community was awarded to Jennifer Romm. Jennifer graduated from Georgetown University in 1988. Currently, she is an event planner at the Library of Congress. She is a former president of CAG and currently is a co-chair of the CAG Georgetown Gala Committee and the Alcohol Beverage Control Committee. She is the lead CAG representative for the Georgetown Campus Plan and is part of the Steering Committee of the Georgetown Community Partnership. A Georgetown resident for over 30 years, Jennifer lives here with her husband David.

The William A. Cochran Community Service Award for Exceptional Efforts to Protect and Enhance the Community’s Parkland and Architectural Resources was awarded to June Libin, Edith Schafer and Lee Child of the Georgetown Garden Club

The Charles Atherton Award for Exceptional Service by a Dedicated Public-Sector Professional for Outstanding Work Preserving and Protecting Historic Georgetown was awarded to Kevin Brandt of the National Park Service.

Kevin Brandt has been an important champion and supporter of the Georgetown community with his strong support for revitalizing and restoring the one-mile section of the C & O canal. As the non-profit, Georgetown Heritage, moves forward with making the canal a jewel in our midst, it is Kevin, who representing the National Park Service, has been with the community all the way.

Appalachian Spring received a Special Appreciation Award for 25 years of service to the retail community and its customers

Special Appreciation Award went to CAG Public Safety Block Captains for keeping the community safe.

The Martin-Davidson Award for Outstanding Businesses That Have Contributed Significantly to the Community was awarded to Michael Rankin of TTR/Sotheby’s.

Through Michael's leadership TTR Sotheby’s International Realty is committed to a deep level of engagement in the community. In recent years, he has supported numerous art, charitable, community, and education organizations, which are further strengthening the community in which we live. TTR Sotheby’s International Realty was ranked #1 Philanthropic Small Company in the Washington metropolitan area recognized by the Washington Business Journal. Michael is an avid preservationist and has restored numerous historic properties in Georgetown, which he now calls home. He is an active member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art, and the Citizens Association of Georgetown. Michael also supports the Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy, Friends of Rose Park, Little Folks, Washington Project for the Arts, and numerous other philanthropic organizations. His affable presence in the neighborhood helps to make this village the wonderful place it is.
