We checked in with one of Washington D.C.’s most talented and sought after makeup artists, Adrian Avila, at Nectar Skin Bar to see if he had any beauty tips to look fabulous for holiday parties.
For women: He’s urging women to start drifting away from the overdone smoky eye, and start gravitating towards a more classic look. He suggests using the women from the show Mad Men as an example. Lining your top lid with a cat-eye effect makes your eyes pop, and also allows you to wear less makeup all together. A simple cheek, and color for your lip is all you will need to complete the dramatic but simple look.

Nectar Skin Bar sells the whole makeup line of Paul and Joe in addition to Becca Cosmetics, a makeup line referred to by Adrian as “makeup for the surfer girl.” It’s a “barely there” kind of makeup, and perfect for the classic look you might be going for.
False lashes are also a fun way to vamp up a holiday party, you can find them at any drugstore for a one time use. Nectar sells the brand Lash Royalty, which guarantees at least three uses.
Adrian’s tip for false lashes: Apply mascara to your lashes before putting on the fake ones. Once the mascara is on and the fake lashes are applied, use tweezers to clamp your lash and the fake lash together. The mascara will act as an adhesive so you won’t have to worry about your false lashes dangling off halfway through your evening.
For men: According to Adrian the GlamGlow mask is a must-have for men. It’s a mud mask that exfoliates, and moisturizes leaving your skin feeling refreshed and renewed. He uses it about an hour before going to an event, and the effects last three days. There’s no scent to this mask, and once it tingles and dries, you just rub it right off.
