D.C. Council Chair Vincent Gray made a surprise appearance Friday at a Georgetown happy hour sponsored by the Georgetown Business Association, the BID, CAG, the ANC and others. Could the soft-spoken rival of Mayor Adrian Fenty be testing the waters for a mayoral run? With Fenty's popularity drooping and more investigations of newly rich cronies underway in The Washington Post and the Council, a growing number of city leaders are advocating a challenge to Fenty by Gray, a longtime community leader and public advocate. One of those encouraging a campaign is Fenty supporter Councilmember Jack Evans, who could run for the Council Chair's seat if Gray runs for mayor. A week ago I spotted Mr. Gray ducking into the L2 Lounge, so perhaps your story has legs.
Fenty's days are numbered. Jack Evans was the first resident in Georgetown to put a Reelect Fenty sign out front of his home. He was also the first resident of Georgetown to take down the Reelect Fenty sign. Washingtonians are fed up with the Mayor's arrogance, and unapologetic attitude.
