Georgetown bars Gin & Tonic and Kitchen (next door) played host to hundreds of politicos on Thursday night for a Gov. Haley Barbour fundraiser. Hosted by Bush staffer-turned-bar-owner Fritz Brogan, the two events raised over $75,000 for Haley's PAC, which may come in handy if the Mississippi governor decides to challenge Barack Obama in the 2012 Presidential election. A positive portrait in the New York Times is fueling speculation that the former Republican Governors Association and founding partner of BGR Group, a successful lobbying firm, could be a serious contender.
For his part, Brogan, a third-generation Hoya, played football for Georgetown Univ. and is currently attending Georgetown Law, according to G&T's website. Brogan got his start in the bar business as a bartender at the historic Third Edition in Georgetown. He is a recipient of Campaign & Election Magazine's prestigious Rising Star Award and has worked for President George W. Bush, Florida Governor Charlie Crist and for state and federal campaigns across the nation.
According to The Hill, which covered the event, the feel was down home country meets, well, Fritz Brogan's Georgetown:
"The staff at Kitchen and G&T served Mississippi foods (think hush puppies), and the bartenders wore shirts emblazoned with "Haley" logos. For guests, the unofficial dress code was preppy: seersucker pants and brightly patterned dresses were spotted in both locations."
