On Thursday, the 14th, an 84-year-old woman was mugged on her doorstep after walking back from the M St. Bank of America at noon. As she was opening her door, a "barrel-chested, bulky man [with] light to medium African American complexion, [and] no facial hair" pushed her into the house and knocked her to the floor. He hit her face, bruising it, then grabbed her purse, and ran out the front door. The mugger maxed-out her credit cards at nearby gas stations.
UPDATE: From Commander Matt Klein
Police searched the area and stopped someone matching the description given by the victim. However, the victim said it was not the offender.
The offender is described "as a black male, black hair, 40 – 45 years of age, 6’1” to 6’2” in height, a stocky build, wearing a black coat and pants."
Police are still looking for the suspect. People close to the victim say "she is healing and shaken, but will be ok."

Thank you for calling attention to this incident. Incidentally, Bethesda police are asking the public's help to identify a man fraudulently posing as a fire/building inspector to gain entry to residences. There have been three reported incidents. It's not a bad idea for
georgetowners to be alerted just in case.

I have lived in Georgetown since the mid 80's.
In all these years I have lived free from fear and loved being here.
Recently a young couple I know were mugged at gun point before 10PM on P & 31 St.
Now this 84 year old woman is mugged in broad day light.
What is going on in Georgetown?
did the incident with the 84 year old woman happen in the East Village or West?
The mugging happened on the 1300 block of 28th St., NW
