The Washington Post's Tom Sietsema wrote recently of Georgetown's jewel Bistro Lepic & Wine Bar: "My reunion [with the restaurant] reminded me why snails baked in garlic butter and floating island are icons right up there with Catherine Deneuve."

Sunday, an icon of Washington's diplomatic community Isabel "Didi" Cutler, who served with her husband former U.S. Ambassador Walter Cutler in Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Congo-Zaire and Iran, delighted guests with beautiful images of her time on the Arabian penninsula and other coasts at an intimate showing hosted by Cyrille and Claude Brenac at the bistro.

Jan du Plain, Lloyd and Ann Hand, Robert Devaney, Neshan Naltchayan, Marianna Ohe and Mary Bird raised flutes of champagne to Didi and her art. Photos of the Persian Gulf were so beautiful they swept guests like the outgoing tide, deep into a dream state.

"The desert inspired me to photograph," Didi wrote. "The never-ending variations of color, form, and texture, the sensations of sands stretching endlessly to the horizon, the feeling of serenity, the formidable emptiness, all elicited in me a compulsion to capture the essence of this magnificent terrain."
