A Haven for Hope
April 14, 2010
Cancer is far too pervasive in our lives today. There is no better way to cope with an unwelcome diagnosis than to know that there is a safe haven, The Wellness Community – Greater DC on Grosvenor Lane in Bethesda, www.wellnesscommunitydc.org. On April 9, Spring 4th with Hope, the fourth such gala took place at the International Monetary Fund. Everyone attending had a reason, some of loss but ever so many of hope. Wellness Community helps the entire family by providing most needed support to patients and caregivers in a welcoming, non-medical environment. The evening celebrated Susie Dyer, a cancer survivor, philanthropist and volunteer with the Celebration of Hope Award and Jill Ward of Whole Foods Bethesda with the new Partnership Award as a leader in natural and organic foods.

Dress for Success Does Jewels
April 12, 2010
Washington’s winter-to-forget forced many events to cancel. April 8 was the “Spring Rain Check” date for the Dress for Success Washington DC Affiliate to reschedule its jewelry buying and selling party at the Madera Hotel. Hotel General Manager Jennifer Harris made certain everyone was pampered. Temptations abounded as Taylor Made Gems (www.taylormadgems.com) displayed modern designs with the counterpoint of Gold Palm Beach Jeweler of West Palm Beach, Florida, offering guests the occasion to trade in “have beens” for vintage gems with a percentage of the sales donated to Dress for Success.
Raffle prizes included four tickets to a Nationals’ game and Kimpton Hotel enticements.
Wine and cheese encouraged the happy shoppers who raised close to $600 for the charity, a non-profit organization providing professional clothing, mentoring support and career skills to women who are making the transition from welfare to work.

Anapu works primarily in silver with delicate touches of gold. Her design concepts of organic shapes and natural forms are heavily influenced by Polynesian culture and her profound appreciation of nature.
