Kathleen Sibelius joins Girls on the Run Sunday, June 5

Girls on the Run is having their annual spring New Balance Girls on the Run -- DC 5k at American University on Sunday, June 5. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will be there. Ward 3 D.C. Councilmember, Mary Cheh joined in last year.

Pre-race family festival activities and the Health Fair begin at 8:45 am and the race kicks off at 10 am.  After the race, Girls on the Run will have a table outside of Georgetown's Lululemon store where volunteers will hand out race cards and Baked and Wired cupcakes.

Girls on the Run – DC is an independent council of Girls on the Run International, founded in 1996, by Molly Barker, a visionary, Ironman triathlete. Today, there are nearly 170 locations  across the U.S. & Canada, with new locations added each year.  Girls on the Run® combines training for a 5k (3.1 miles) event with healthy living education.

Bomb scare at Ace Hardware closes Wisconsin Avenue

Wisconsin Avenue in Glover Park was closed off Tuesday afternoon for several hours while police and bomb-sniffing dogs  checked out a threat at Ace Hardware. The store re-opened late afternoon following a thorough store security check.
