Breaktime From Dresses

August 3, 2011

Jumpsuits are one of my favorites pieces of comfy-chic clothing that provide a nice break from wearing one more dress.  They're an easy option for those nights you're not feeling inspired to put together an outfit - just throw on a jumpsuit, accessorize and voila, you're set!  Jumpsuits are truly a staple piece to any wardrobe and are extremely versatile - dress them up with heels or wear them casual with flats, wear them with or without a belt, it's up to you!  Plus, they're great transitional pieces in to Fall.

I love this bright red Lucy in Disguise jumpsuit - available at ShopBop!  It's great for a night out when you want something a little dressy but fun that will make you stand out in a crowd.  Pair it with chunky gold earrings or a long necklace and perhaps a lighter red-colored clutch.

For a neutral look, try this simple, two-tone cream and nude-colored jumpsuit by Olcay Gulsen available at ShopBop.  Try adding a dark brown belt for a twist or wear it as-is for a sleek and polished look.

I am smitten for the color this mustard-gold colored jumpsuit by Malene Birger - which would look amazing paired with jewel-toned (emerald, royal blue, purple, etc.) accessories or keep it simple with bold gold jewelry - available at Net-a-Porter.

Charcoal gray is a great neutral that you can accessorize with so much - a pair of turquoise earrings or a fuchsia colored clutch.  I love this Halston Heritage jumpsuit available at Net-a-Porter.

Finally, a LUST item of mine, this exquisite Stella McCartney sequin jumpsuit available at Bergdorf Goodman.   Totally Red Carpet-worthy and truly a work of art, this would be a fabulous choice for an upcoming formal event to set you apart from the sea of dresses.

The jumpsuit has worked since the '70s and the days of Studio 54 and continues on to be a timeless piece to add to your wardrobe.  They're also amazing because they are a friend to the post-baby body as they will hide those areas you may not feel like accentuating.

A Penny For Your Thoughts...or Shoes

July 27, 2011

Are your pennies ready?!  This Fall, penny loafers are a must-have for your feet!

Well, penny loafers are moving back on to the scene and I'm thrilled!  They're classic, comfortable, a little dressier than a regular ballet flat and add a preppy twist and probably bring back childhood memories to some of us, heh!  The red Tory Burch penny loafer above would add a nice pop of color to a pair of blue denim jeans and a white button-up for a preppy look while you're headed out for a bit of shopping on U Street or for a day at the museums.

Boston Penny Loafers by ONE available at ShopBop.

I love the loafers above by ONE and the neutral color means it can go with just about any color combo.  Still wondering what to wear your penny loafers with if you want to do a non-preppy look?  Mix them with trendier pieces like a bold color pair of cropped jeans and an oversized sweater.

However you rock yours, don't forget to put your two cents in!  Or in this case, one ;-)

The Pants Have It!

July 21, 2011

I don't know about you, but my favorite time of year for fashion is Fall!  We get to welcome back cozy oversized sweaters, tweed skirts, tights, jeans, boots, fabulous coats and more amongst a perfect backdrop of fall foliage and a crisp cool autumn air.

It's hard to believe amidst this scorching heat wave though, that it's right around the corner.  So in an effort to prepare, I want to share with you one of my favorite trends for Fall 2011 - the return of the trouser!

High waisted pants by Diane von Furstenberg available at ShopBop

*Lemon Litoff Blouse available at Anthropologie

A fabulous pair of pants will make you feel powerful, in control and sexy!  Plus, they're extremely versatile because they can be dressed up or down and give you a break from dresses.  They work paired with a blazer, or a flowy blouse tucked in - like the blouse seen above from Anthropologie - or even just a simple white T.

If you're headed in to the office and want to take the simple route and play off basics by pairing your pants with a white T - do a scoop neck T paired with a chunky pearl necklace and throw on a pair of sexy pumps!  Throw a colorful cardigan over your shoulders and you're office-chic but you'd also be set to transition out to dinner with friends at the end of the day.

Have fun with your pants and scoop up a pair of bold colored pants too, like the sizzlin' red Alice + Olivia high waist wide leg pants below, and pair them with a sheer, flowy and flirty white blouse and a pair of nude, black or an animal print heels.  You'll be sure to make a statement with a bold colored pair of pants, but trust me, it will be a good statement ;-)

Remember that these pants should elongate you, it shouldn't look like the pants are wearing you, so make sure you hem them if they're too long but be careful not to go too short.  Check out Banana Republic and Tory Burch Fall collections when they hit the stores soon - you won't be disappointed.  :o)
